What Are Some Side Effects of Herbalife Products

Herbalife Nutrition is a global company that sells various health products mostly dietary supplements, personal care products, sports nutrition, and weight management. The company aims to “improve” people’s health worldwide, in the words of Mark Hughes, founder of Herbalife. But is that really so? Does Herbalife help its customers radically lose pounds of fats without a side effect?

The ingredients they use are not very healthy. It doesn’t work the way they claim it does. They use processed soy, gluten, hydrogenated oil, carrageenan, Monosodium glutamate, Canola oil, rancid vegetable oil, and artificial sweeteners.

Herbalife Products’ Side Effects: Here’s why Herbalife isn’t FDA approved

If you don’t think that’s too good to be true, you must be naive. I, for one, have always been taught there’s no shortcut to health. And then Herbalife suddenly emerges to the scene and claims to slim people down solely using dietary supplements and meal replacement shakes. Several warnings from the FDA against their false claims and side effects of the components of their supplements also mars Herbalife’s reputation. So go figure.

Causes of the Several Side Effects of Herbalife Nutrition

The adverse effects of Herbalife are rooted in its ingredients. Some of the questionable elements responsible for the various side effects of Herbalife nutrition are as follows.

Adverse Effects of Processed Soy

Eating a little bit of processed soy is good, but if the amount is significant, then it’s not good for your health. Once you start eating Herbalife products, they encourage you to take more of their products to make you healthy (which is they usually say). But it’s not going to help if you keep taking their protein shakes and other dietary things. Some adverse effects of processed soy are-

  • If you consume a large amount of processed soy, then it can have some harmful effects on female fertility and reproductive development.
  • A soy-rich diet can increase estrogen in the male
  • The genistein in processed soy alters reproduction and embryonic development.
  • In some lad studies, it’s found that what people might get from a high soy diet is what fed to animal doses.
  • The blood level of the genistein in people who eat a lot of processed soy is usually in the range of 1 to 5 micromoles, or about 1 milligram of genistein is circulating in the body of an adult which is not good.
  • Processed soy is rich in phytic acid which can block people’s mineral absorption.
  • Processed soy has goitrogens which can negatively impact the thyroid.
  • It is rich in phytoestrogens that mimic estrogen in your body..

Adverse Effects of Gluten

There are a lot of people in the world who are gluten intolerant. But even though you are not gluten intolerant, this may cause you a lot of harm. Let’s have a look-

  • Taking gluten makes you feel bloating. You will feel as if your belly is swollen and full of gas which inevitably makes you feel miserable.
  • Sometimes it causes diarrhea, constipation and your feces will be smelly.
  • If someone has celiac disease, he/she will feel inflammation if he eats gluten.
  • Celiac disease patients will see pale and foul-smelly feces.
  • Gluten can cause abdominal pain. It is the most common.
  • Though migraines are a common condition but eating gluten can cause you having extreme migraines.
  • If you’re taking Herbalife products and you are always feeling tired, then you must know that it’s the gluten which is making always feel tired.
  • You could have blistering skin condition if you eat gluten.
  • Gluten is also the cause of depression.
  • It can cause you iron deficiency.
  • Taking gluten can cause anemia.

It also causes anxiety.

As many as six Herbalife formulations have been proven to have hazardous levels of lead toxins.

However, as expected, Herbalife negated all such claims and insisted upon all their products meeting regulatory standards. In truth, the most common weight reduction products from Herbalife lead up to a cumulative lead exposure of up to 45 times which surpasses the legal maximum lead exposure by 4,636 percent.

Adverse Effects of Hydrogenated Oil

This oil started as a healthy oil, but when they chemical processed it which called hydrogenation, then the oil turns into solid which is unhealthy trans-fats. Here are some side effects of hydrogenated oil

  • Hydrogenated oil contains solid trans fat which raises LDL cholesterol which is very bad for health, and it has a harmful impact on the human
  • It affects cardiovascular risk.
  • Some partially hydrogenated oil that mixes with vegetable oil is not good either.

Adverse Effects of Carrageenan

Carrageenan is a processed food that is additive from seaweed.  The side effects are

  • It has terrible consequences on the digestive tract and gut.
  • It causes IBS(Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • It causes inflammation and bloating.
  • Carrageenan causes glucose intolerance.
  • It causes food allergies.

Adverse Effects of Monosodium Glutamate

Taking monosodium glutamate is not good for health. It is tricky that companies use different names for monosodium glutamate(MSG). Let’s take a look at how harmful this is

  • Monosodium glutamate is an excitotoxin which can cause
  • Our body does not process glutamate as it is naturally processed glutamic acid.
  • It causes headaches and sweating.
  • Monosodium glutamate is also the reason behind facial pressure or tightness.
  • It causes chest pain, nausea, and weakness.
  • It causes rapid fluttering heartbeats which is called heart palpitations.
  • It also causes numbness, tingling, burning sensation in the face, neck, and other areas.

Canola Oil

Canola is a GMO crop, and it’s genetically modified in Herbalife products which is harmful to health. It uses rancid vegetable oil, but the problem is it undergoes a lot of processing.  Canola oil is extracted with hexane then with a neurotoxin and then bleached, and it undergoes some of the other disgusting techniques. If you know how it is made, you won’t take this thing. It is very harmful to the body.

Artificial Sweeteners

Herbalife uses artificial sweeteners which are called sucralose. Another name of sucralose is Splenda. Sucralose is made of a patented multi-step process that starts with sugar and then selectively replaces three hydrogen groups on the sugar molecules with three chlorine atoms. The result of this thing is exceptionally stable for sweetening things which will taste like sugar, but the problem is it will not contain sugar’s calories. Here are the side effects of this thing-

  • First of all, this is chlorinated which is not good for health at all.
  • Sucrose will destroy beneficial gut flora. As a result, we get impairing immune function, and this promotes obesity.
  • The FDA does not approve this kind of food which Herbalife evidently missed the mark.
