Maral root (Stemmacantha carthamoides) is a perennial herb grown in the mountains of southern Siberia. Native hunters first discovered Stemmacantha carthamoides by noticing Maral deer renewing their strength after eating the roots.
Hence the name Maral. In Siberian medicine, it is used to restore power after any illness or ailment as well as prevent overtraining. Also, it is used to enhance physical and sexual energy.
Russian athletes were the first to use Stemmacantha carthamoides as an ergogenic aid to assist in handling the physical and psychological stress of intense training.
Maral contains a variety of beneficial compounds. Ecdysteroids such as 20-hydroxyecdysone are believed to have anabolic properties. Also, it provides various sterols such as b-sitosterol, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and triterpenoid glycosides.
The above compounds stimulate and support the immune system, increase protein synthesis, eliminate free radical damage, support cognitive function and improve work capacity.
Most athletes would benefit from Maral root anabolic growth-promoting effects. Stemmacantha carthamoides will enhance performance during aerobic endurance exercises and prolonged intermittent, high-intensity sports.
