Typha Capensis (Love Reed)
All parts of the plant can be used in creating decoctions, including the leaves, seeds, and pollen, although the roots (rhizomes) are most commonly used. It is predominantly used to treat male sexual performance issues, although the herb does have a number of other applications.
To Treat Male Fertility Issues
Bangalala helps with more than improving circulation; it also has a biochemical effect as the herb’s phytosteriods can be metabolized by the body, thereby creating androgens. Androgens are a group of hormones that play an important role in reproductive activity, most notably testosterone and androstenedione, which are beneficial for male sex drive and performance. According to the research team, the results of tests revealed that the herb effectively boosts testosterone secretion.
In Pregnancy and Delivery
It is also used in a decoction of the rhizomes to ensure an easy delivery during pregnancy; the decoction will either be taken orally or applied externally. This is thought to help with the expulsion of the placenta as well as promoting strong uterine contractions.
